APA SIGNS THE BLACK WIDOW
World’s Largest Pool League Signs World’s Most Recognizable Poolplayer to Sponsorship Agreement

LAKE SAINT LOUIS, MO (April 28, 2009) — The American Poolplayers Association (APA) is proud to announce they have signed a sponsorship agreement with The Black Widow, Jeanette Lee. The APA made the announcement yesterday at their annual League Operator Convention in Las Vegas.

“We’re very excited to work with The Black Widow. We believe her image transcends the sport of pool, and we believe she will encourage non-poolplayers to pick up a cue and give our leagues a try,” said APA Public Relations Manager Jason Bowman.

Lee will be the official spokesperson for the APA and APA Pool Leagues and will appear in advertisements, commercials and other promotional materials encouraging people to compete in an APA Pool League.

“The APA has not only been the leader in amateur pool leagues for years, but a leader in the billiard industry as well. The Equalizer® APA’s handicap and scoring system, allows players of any ability to compete and win, including those who have never played the game. I look forward to working with the APA, and I encourage poolplayers and non-poolplayers alike to join an APA League,” said Jeanette Lee.

The APA, based in Lake Saint Louis, Mo., sanctions the world’s largest amateur pool league, known as the APA Pool League throughout the United States, and as the Canadian Pool League in Canada. More than 260,000 members compete in weekly 8-Ball and 9‑Ball league play. The APA is generally recognized as the Governing Body of Amateur Pool, having established the official rules, championships, formats and handicap systems for the sport of amateur billiards.

The APA produces three major tournaments each year—the APA National Team Championships, the APA National Singles Championships and the U.S. Amateur Championship—that, together, pay out nearly $1.5 Million in cash and prizes annually!

The APA and its championships are sponsored by Cuetec Cues and PoolDawg.

Ohio State Billiards Championships

Ohio State BCA Pool League Championships

by InsidePOOL Staff

The 2009 Ohio State BCAPL Championships had tournament director Chris Williams, assisted by referee Earl Timmons, organize over 600 players from not only Ohio but neighboring Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and Indiana.

The attraction of the $24,000 prize money drew 96 men’s and 12 women’s teams, plus 128 men and 29 women in the singles divisions to the All Star Family Sports Entertainment Center in Columbus, OH, April 16-19. The monster indoor facility, where the Columbus Comets and the Columbus Destroyers arena football clubs practice, gave the Bad Boy Productions’ crew plenty of elbow room to house the forty 7-foot Diamond Smart tables complete with Simonis cloth and Aramith balls.

Williams, always looking for ways to add incentive to the festivities, awarded “bounties” equal to the entry fee for any individual or team who eliminated last year’s champions.

Fiddlestix emerged victorious for the second straight year.

Fiddlestix emerged victorious for the second straight year.

Chad Askins collected the first by ousting men’s defending titlist Fred Lane. Amy Theriault scored the second by eliminating 2008 women’s champion Melanie Headley. Theriault then proceeded through the one-loss bracket until defeated by Dana Gilmore, who captured the women’s singles championship and the $500 prize money.

In the men’s singles division, Shane Morrow of Erie, PA, mowed through the west side to meet undefeated West Virginian Terry Barker. Barker was not to be broken and garnered the $1,500 first prize.

The 2008 men’s and women’s team champions each made it to the final round. In an interesting note, in the four-year history of the championship, Tri County Wooley won the men’s events in ‘06 and ’07, and Fiddlestix Mammone won it last year. All Wooley had to do was muster some of their prior championship mastery, and not only would they have taken the title, they would have been eligible for the bounty reward. Although, pushed to the brink, Fiddlestix prevailed and banked the $5,000 for first and secured their second consecutive title.

Dana Gilmore, the 2009 women’s champion and namesake of O’Malley’s Gilmore, gallantly led her team to take that title too.

Last year’s women’s champions, Nick’s Players, were not so fortunate. Delivered early to the one-loss side, bravely, they battled in their quest for back-to-back titles. In the finals, they faced an all-too-powerful O’Malley’s Gilmore. Dana Gilmore, the aforementioned 2009 women’s champion and namesake of O’Malley’s Gilmore, gallantly led her team to take that title too.

Cue Sports International (CSI), the BCA Pool League’s parent company, also donated a Joss cue to the prize fund. Williams, in the interest of procuring more BCA Pool League member e-mail addresses, created a draw where all entrants had to do was deposit their electronic contact info. With 300-plus addresses delivered, more than half the players were represented. Richard Caspary from Warren, OH, is now the proud owner of a new Joss Cue.

Pool League Celebrates 20 Years in Billiards

February 16, 2009 TAP League No Comments

TAP – Celebrating 20 Years with a whole new look, vision and attitude.

TAP, LLC is starting 2009 off with new marketing, enhancements to its systems and a fast growing organization.

Little River, SC, Feb. 13, 2009 :  In 2009, TAP celebrates its 20th year in business.  An all new marketing effort is underway.  From new promotional items to networking with industry publications,  TAP as a whole is undergoing a review and update of all processes.

TAP as all companies has experienced ups and downs, highs and lows, learning and growing pains in the last 20 years, but has evolved into an explosion of opportunity for licensees , players and host locations alike.

TAP as all companies has experienced ups and downs, highs and lows, learning and growing pains in the last 20 years, but has evolved into an explosion of opportunity for licensees , players and host locations alike.

Pool Net,  TAP’s database system, was released to licensees in 2007, by founder and owner, Loyd Schonter.  Several upgrades and enhancements have been made to it to help the licensee run their business, since that release.  Providing licensees with control of score sheet entry, administrative corrections, and reports and billing.

2009 will bring more to the player through accessibility to data and statistics.  Constant updating and monitoring will be done, ensuring the best systems available in league play.

Territory sales have increased.  New licensees with their own new marketing concepts bring fresh new ideas to the table. Adding to the new attitude that TAP may not be the biggest, but we are the best., fastest growing league in North America.

Players excel in the TAP leagues. They are the focus. TAP licensees learn early on what makes their league successful, their players.

Players excel in the TAP leagues.  They are the focus.  TAP licensees learn early on what makes their league successful, their players.  Licensees start by giving the player a fair starting handicap, and as they play scorekeeping is completed based upon their individual performance.  Once score sheets are turned in, the licensees can provide stats immediately upon entering a score sheet.  The system updates their performance for that week.  Licensees and operators do not have the ability to change handicaps.  Ensuring all players nationally are handicapped fairly and equally.

National tournaments such as Rally in the Valley Dream Team event in March in conjunction with the Allen Hopkins Super Billiards Expo in Valley Forge, PA and  the TAP National Team event held in November, now have their scores entered into the system as well.  Helping to ensure players handicaps include all level of play and competition.

Titleholders held throughout TAP are hosted by licensees and operators, some inviting other TAP operators and their teams, so three times a year players can win cash prizes locally.

TAP also added in July 2008,  the TAP’s Duel in the Desert.  This 3 person team event is held in Las Vegas, NV annually.

National qualifiers are held for the team and single events, so players can win trips to what TAP refers to as the “traveling” Nationals.  Players get the opportunity to win a trip, play for more cash and see different parts of the US, they may not have otherwise been able to visit.  They can bring their family and can enjoy the discounts worked out for them at each venue.

Starting in March 2009, the TAP membership department will be taking advantage of the new technology, developing and providing prepaid cards and packages. Licensees will have the ability to give the player their membership package immediately, upon signing up to become a TAP Player.

By participating in TAP, licensees and players can enjoy all of these updates and enhancements with no additional cost to them.  As always, providing the best product, at the best prices, in league play today.
