James Baraks bested Dustin Wilgus twice in the final set to take the Lucasi Hybrid All-American Tour by storm February 27. Held in Decatur, IL, this $500-added event featured a 52-player field in a double-elimination 9-ball format on 8-foot tables.

Wilgus took the undefeated route to the hot seat, including an A-side semifinal win over Sergio Perez 8-6 and the A-side finals win over Mike Dunklin 8-6. Dunklin won his A-side semifinal match over Chris Austin 8-7 prior to his loss to Wilgus, and Dunklin then awaited his opponent in the B-side finals.

In the B-side round of eight, Baraks and Rick Halls eliminated Chris Winschief 8-4 and Ike Runnels 8-6, respectively, at seventh place. The B-side quarterfinals featured Baraks and Halls continuing by ousting Perez 8-5 and Austin 8-7, respectively, at fifth place. In the B-side semifinals, Baraks edged Halls at fourth place by an 8-7 margin. Baraks maintained his momentum in the B-side finals by defeating Dunklin 8-5. Versus the undefeated Wilgus in the finals, Baraks displayed conviction in winning two sets for the title, 8-2 and 8-6.

Ryan Robinson double-dipped Anthony Garcia in the finals of the February 5 Lucasi Hybrid All-American Tour, winning the title. Hosted by Leisure Time Billiards in East Moline, IL, the $500-added event featured a full field of 64 players in a double-elimination 8-ball format on 7-foot bar boxes.

Garcia swept through the A-side undefeated, topping his victories off with a 4-1 domination of Robinson in the A-side semifinals and a 4-1 run over Mike Peiffer in the A-side finals. On the B-side Robinson recovered to eliminate Don Grawe at fifth place by a 4-2 margin, while Dean Fuller tied Grawe when he fell at the hands of Steve Westlin 4-3.

Robinson then ended the runs of Westlin at fourth place by a 4-2 score and Peiffer at third place by a 4-2 margin. In the tournament finals, Robinson took full advantage of another opportunity at Garcia by claiming two sets 4-2, 4-3 for the title.

Sam Cordova triumphed at the January 23 stop on the Lucasi Hybrid All-American Tour, defeating Ed Borrego in the finals to take the title. The $500-added event showcased 30 players in a double-elimination 8-ball format on 7-foot Dynamo bar boxes.

Cordova moved unscathed to the finals via wins over Jimmy Dean Birdsall 5-0, Cannon Russell 5-1, Bill Skinner 5-1, Rick Field 5-3, and Borrego 5-4. Borrego earlier had handed losses to James Largent 5-0, Roy Yamane 5-3, Rich Cunningham 5-3, and Jackie Karol 5-3. Dave Hughes challenged Borrego for the B-side finals, but Borrego ousted Hughes 5-2 for a second chance at Cordova in the title match. Cordova left no doubt that he was top dog on this day, as he turned back Borrego by a 5-1 margin in the first set for the title.

Jason Totten took down the January 16 stop of the Lucasi Hybrid All-American Tour, besting Ryan Robinson in the finals to take first place. Hosted by Miller Time Billiards in Davenport, IA, the $500-added event featured 28 players in a double-elimination 8-ball format on 7-foot bar boxes.

Totten took down the hot seat by clipping Gary Plant 4-3 in the A-side finals. After that he waited for his opponent. On the west side, Ryan Robinson and Ricardo Pena ending the day at fifth place for Rich Bideaux and Don Boll, respectively. Robinson then ousted Pena at fourth place by a 5-3 margin. Robinson then took down the B-side finals by eclipsing Plant 5-2, but Totten blocked Robinson’s route to the title in the first set of the finals with a 4-2 decision.

Mike Cantrell took top honors in the men’s division of the January 16-17 Lucasi Hybrid All-American Tour, while Teruko Cucculelli won the women’s event. Hosted by 8 Ball Sports Bar & Billiards Club in Columbus, OH, the $750-added Central Ohio Open featured an 83-player men’s division in a double-elimination 8-ball format on 7-foot Valley bar boxes.

Cantrell captured the hot seat with a win over Skip Shumate 5-3. Once on the one-loss side, Shumate bested Shane Lykens 5-1 for the right to meet Cantrell again in the tournament finals. But Cantrell was just too strong, taking the finals 5-3 over Shumate.

The $250-added women’s division event featured an 18-player field. Cucculelli captured the hot seat with a win over Shannon Dunn 4-1. From the west side, Dunn returned to the finals after eliminating beat Deidra Govin 4-2 in third place. Cucculelli proved to be the stronger player in the finals, again winning over Dunn 4-2.
